I would be honored to carry a name for you!

In 39 short days I will be walking the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day for my second time. I am so excited to be walking with 7 amazing girlfriends!!!! As I get ready to walk again, I have been thinking about all of the people in my life who have been touched by cancer -- either by fighting it themselves, or by watching and helping a loved one fight the disease. This year, I want to do something special during the walk, for all of the people I know who have suffered from breast cancer.

I have decided to dedicate my walk to those whom I know and those whom you know, who are fighting breast cancer currently, those who have survived, and to remember those who have passed on. I plan to carry a pink ribbon for each of these people, with his or her name on it. If you would like me to include yourself or a friend or family member, please send me the name. I will write it on a ribbon and carry it with me, as I walk 60 miles. The 3-Day event is an amazing weekend of spirit, camaraderie, and fun; It is also a somber time to remember those we love, and the reason we are walking. I hope to honor these people by keeping them in my thoughts as I walk.

I will keep a running list of names on my website. If you are interested, you can see them at:

Did you know.........

Every two minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer.

When breast cancer is found early, the five-year survival rate is 96 percent. More than two million
breast cancer survivors are living in the United States today.

Women who get regular mammograms reduce their risk of breast cancer death by 63 percent.

Annual mammograms are recommended for women age 40 and older, but only one in 20 women
consistently follows that recommendation.

Mammography is a low-dose X-ray examination that can detect breast cancer up to two years before it is large enough to be felt.

Have you gotten your yearly exam? If not, please so. You could save your life!!!

October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 2009 marks the 25th anniversary of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. While there has been amazing achievements made in the fight to find a cure, according to the American Cancer Society about 192,370 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women and about 40,170 women will die from breast cancer in 2009. Simply put we must still work very hard to find a cure!!

While there has been exciting progress made against this horrible disease, there are still women who do not take advantage of early detection at all and others who do not get screening mammograms and clinical breast exams at regular basis. The key to mammography screening is that it be done routinely – once is not enough. I personally believe a woman owes it to herself and perhaps more importantly to her family and dear friends to do monthly breast exams and visit their doctor on a year basis for a mammogram.

This month I will be working hard to put facts about breast cancer on the blog with the hope I might reach out to just one person and make a difference. Breast Cancer has touched many people I know personally. This November I will be walking the Komen 3Day in honor of all of those who have been somehow touch by this disease. It is my hope that my daughter Missy P will not have to walk a 3Day when she is my age, my hope and prayer is we will find a cure by that time.

I encourage you to take a look at the National Breast Cancer Awareness Web site to learn more. It can be found at: http://www.nbcam.org

Quick and Easy Meals (if it really was only that quick and easy!)

If you are anything like me, meal time can be one the hardest times of day!! Cant tell you how many times I have looked at the clock, see that it is 5 o'clock and say to myself "oh dear, what am I going to cook tonight?" How wonderful it would be if I could just snap my fingers and have a great meal on the table!! Well since that is not going to happen, what is the next best thing? Quick and easy meals!!!

A family favorite in our house is what we call pasta, meat and cheese. Fancy it is not, good is what it is. I simply cook up meat (ground turkey or beef) in a pan, while that is cooking up I cook the pasta. Drain the pasta, add the cooked meat to the pasta and add a bunch of yummy sauce. Through it in the oven with some shredded Mozzarella cheese on top. I usually bake for about 20 mins or so on 35 (until it is hot and bubbly). Serve with bread and a salad!!
